GOSHEN – The blame for last Friday night’s shooting of three adults following a high school football game in Newburgh should be placed on the state with its continued criminal justice reform, Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus says.

While there was a large local response to the incident by police and EMS personnel, the county executive said one state official in particular was visibly absent.

“Where was the attorney general. She should be here. We had a shooting at a high school. She should have been there the next morning. We need people to come out and support us and to what is right for public safety,” Neuhaus said.

State Attorney General Letitia James has sponsored gun buyback programs around the state, including in Newburgh, and even attended one such event in Newburgh several months ago.
