NEWBURGH – The Newburgh Elks started Breast Cancer Awareness Month on October 1st by honoring the Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation at their annual picnic.  The large gathering at the Elks headquarters on Washington Street raised $3,000 for the foundation.

“Since 2014, the Elks have donated over $10,000 to Miles of Hope helping us to fund support services, education, and outreach for people affected by breast cancer within the 9 counties of the Hudson Valley,” said Miles of Hope Executive Director, Pari Forood.
The Newburgh Elks have been supporting local breast cancer programs for years, according to one member of the Elks.
Miles of Hope is a 19-year-old public charity that partners with local social service agencies to help people in treatment with their bills and finances. The foundation has granted almost $3 million dollars to individuals and programs helping Hudson Valley residents affected by breast cancer since being launched.
“Thank you to the Elks never feels like enough — especially for that cake with my photo on it! — but everyone who attends the picnics year after year knows how grateful we are for their support,” Ms. Forood added.
