TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – Just hours after a Sunday morning shooting a few hundred yards away, the Town of Poughkeepsie Police were once again using special tactics to deal with a barricaded subject along the Route 9 corridor.

(The account of Sunday morning’s homicide at the Courtyard by Marriott in the town can be found here.)

On Sunday evening, several Town of Poughkeepsie police officers were investigating a shooting on Manchester Road when they were advised of a subject with mental health issues barricaded in his residence on Field Court, near the hotel crime scene.

The reason for the standoff was not made available to Mid-Hudson News.

Town police converged on the Field Court neighborhood around 10:15 p.m. and established a secure perimeter.  At least two police vehicles and five officers were observed in front of the residence with tactical weapons aimed at the residence.  Other officers, according to radio communications, were approaching the rear of the house from the apartment complex just south of the Field Court.

The barricaded subject, according to a neighbor, is allegedly known to police and neighbors for his outbursts and behavioral issues.

As of 11:15 p.m. on Sunday the police were still attempting to make contact with the subject and resolve the standoff peacefully.
