CARMEL – Putnam County Sheriff’s deputies apprehended a driver of a vehicle believed to have been involved in a New York City shooting.  Deputies joined other police agencies in the chase of the vehicle on the Taconic State Parkway on Monday afternoon.

Shyvarie Hernandez, a 40-year-old Bronx man was apprehended after a pursuit and manhunt. He was arrested and charged with the misdemeanors of unlawful fleeing of a police officer in a motor vehicle and reckless endangerment.  Hernandez was also cited with several vehicle and traffic violations.

According to Putnam County Sheriff Kevin McConville, his deputies were alerted that a vehicle suspected to be involved in a shooting in New York was traveling north on the Taconic approaching Putnam County.
Putnam deputies responded to the parkway at approximately 4:40 p.m. and were advised that officers from the Yorktown Police Department were pursuing the vehicle and attempting to stop it.
Deputies observed the car exiting the parkway at Bryant Pond Road, where it drove through the gas station off the exit and got back on the parkway, traveling north while failing to stop for the lights and sirens of the Putnam deputies.
The vehicle, McConville said, continued north on the Taconic State Parkway and exited at Pudding Street.  When law enforcement arrived, they found the vehicle unoccupied in a private driveway on Lake Shore Drive.
Personnel from several law enforcement agencies set up a perimeter in the area and were able to locate the driver, who was taken into custody without incident.
The Hernandez was transported back to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, where he was processed and released with an appearance ticket for a future court appearance in Putnam Valley Justice Court.
The vehicle was towed to the sheriff’s office and held as evidence for the NYPD.
