Brandon Gonzalez, wanted by the sheriff’s office

LIBERTY – A Town of Liberty woman has been arrested on animal cruelty charges and a man is wanted on the same charges after Sullivan County Sheriff’s deputies found an abandoned German shepherd and two puppies without food and water.

When located at 165 Airport Road in Liberty on Saturday, the dogs appeared to be severely dehydrated.

The sheriff’s office contacted Town of Liberty Constable Joanne Gerow who responded to the scene and took custody of the animals.

The ensuing investigation revealed that the occupants, Kristina Rodrigues and Brandon Gonzalez, had moved out of the residence several days before and left the animals behind, unattended.

Deputies arrested Rodrigues at a residence in Loch Sheldrake on Sunday. She was charged with animal neglect and abandonment and issued an appearance ticket for Town of Liberty court. She was then turned over to the State Police in Wurtsboro on an outstanding warrant.

Deputies are asking for the public’s help in locating Gonzalez, the second suspect. He is wanted on animal cruelty charges in connection with this case as well as a warrant for DWI.

Residents with information are asked to call 845-794-7100 or the Sheriff’s Confidential TIPS Line at 845-807-0158.
