Area unemployment rates continue to fall

ALBANY – Unemployment rates in Hudson Valley/Catskills counties in August declined compared to the same month last year, according to State Labor Department statistics.

Columbia County registered 3.0 percent while Greene County, across the Hudson River to the west scored the highest in the region at 3.8 percent.

Putnam and Rockland County each had 3.2 percent joblessness while Sullivan and Dutchess each had a 3.3 percent rate.

Ulster County’s rate of unemployment in August was 3.5 percent, while Orange and Westchester counties followed with 3.6 percent each.

Delaware County registered 3.7 percent unemployment.
