GOSHEN – Orange County’s new health commissioner, Dr. Alicia Pointer, spent the last several years of her career as head of pediatrics at Cornerstone Family Healthcare in Newburgh.

She wanted to do more for the community, so she applied for her new job, she told the Health and Mental Health Committee of the county legislature on Tuesday.

“I only had 15 to 20 minutes with my patients at any given time, and I didn’t feel that was enough for me to address all of the other health issues that affect them in the county,” she said. “I loved my patients and seeing my families and watching them grow, but I wanted to do more for these external factors that I felt were really affecting their health.”

Dr. Pointer started on the job with the county government on Monday.
