Det. William Conklin

NEW CITY – On Friday the Clarkstown Police Department remembered the loss of their only officer to die in the line of duty.

Detective William Conklin suffered a heart attack while executing a search warrant as part of a narcotics investigation on September 16, 1971.

His dedication to the department and to the Clarkstown community was “second to none,” the department said in a statement.

“His sense of dedication and high level of professionalism is the cornerstone of how we operate today. This tragic incident is an example of how the stresses and dangers of their job can take a tragic toll,” police officials said.

Detective Conklin is listed on the national Officer Down Memorial Page on the Internet.”
