PEEKSKILL – Investigators from the Peekskill Police Department have a “person of interest” in custody after a Wednesday morning standoff that resulted in a structure fire at 10 Grant Avenue in the city.

At approximately 12:25 a.m. Wednesday morning, Peekskill Police responded to a report of a man with stab wounds at 7 North James Street.  Responding officers located a 48-year-old man, identified as Edward Reeves suffering from multiple stab wounds.  First aid was immediately rendered and Reeves was transported to Westchester Medical Center where he died from his wounds.

On Wednesday at approximately 11:25 a.m., investigators went to 10 Grant Avenue to speak with a “person of interest” in the Reeves homicide.  The individual became uncooperative and barricaded himself in the house.  A standoff ensued and minutes later police noted that the house was on fire.

Peekskill firefighters on Engines 131 and 132 were dispatched to respond and stage away from the house until officers determined that the man was exiting the flaming building through a second-story window.  He was taken into custody without incident and firefighters went to work extinguishing the flames.

The Montrose VA Hospital Fire Department, Mohegan Ladder Company, Buchanan Fire Department, and the Mohegan Fire Department were also dispatched to the scene.  The Continental Engine Company relocated an apparatus to the Peekskill Fire Department HQ to provide coverage in the city.
