PEARL RIVER – Tuesday morning, both early and late, scattered thunderstorms, some possibly severe, are expected to sweep through the region. To make repairs and restore power as needed, Orange and Rockland Utilities is preparing to mobilize its company-wide emergency response group.
O&R company and contractor overhead line crews and tree removal experts, customer service representatives and the wide array of other O&R teams that support the emergency response effort will be activated Tuesday morning.
For safety’s sake, O&R warns the public not to touch or approach any downed wire. Assume it is energized and dangerous. Call O&R immediately toll-free 1-877-434-4100. Depending on the situation, you may also consider calling your local police to divert traffic until an O&R crew arrives.
A slow-moving area of low pressure will bring a warm front through the area overnight Monday, with a round of showers and thunderstorms due between around midnight through about 4 a.m. Tuesday.
Heavy rainfall is possible along with a chance of isolated severe thunderstorms during that time period.
The warm front will lift north of the area during the mid-morning hours with a lull in showers and thunderstorms expected.
A second batch of showers and thunderstorms is likely about11 a.m. through approximately 3 p.m. Tuesday as a cold front sweeps across the area. Isolated severe thunderstorms are possible again during this timeframe. Severe thunderstorms are defined as containing wind gusts over 57 mph, hail more than 1-inch in diameter and/or tornadoes.
Prevailing winds are expected at 5-15 m.p.h., gusting to 30 m.p.h. Rainfall totals are predicted to total as much as 1.5 inches.
Clouds are expected to decrease tomorrow evening as low pressure exits the area and high pressure builds in Wednesday through Sunday.
