TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – The traffic lights at the intersection of Cedar Street and Fairview Avenue in the Town of Poughkeepsie are being changed to four-way flashing red lights.  The change is the result of a traffic safety study authorized by the town board.

Fourth Ward Town Councilman Mike Cifone, who lives near the intersection, said the change is to improve safety at the intersection.  “There have been accidents at the intersection because of drivers trying to make it through before the light changes, and we are trying to prevent that,” he said.  Cifone also noted that Fairview Avenue has been plagued by speeding vehicles because it is a long, flat straightaway.

“This is a safety initiative that will slow drivers down and reduce the number of accidents at the intersection which borders Fairview Park and a school bus stop.”
