TOWN OF NEWBURGH – The Sears department store at the Newburgh Mall, one of the longstanding anchor stores at the Town of Newburgh shopping center, will be closing.

Mid-Hudson News confirmed the closure with a spokesman for the mall and later in the day, Sears posted on social media that it will be closing on October 16.

The mall is in the early stages of a complete makeover with the anticipated Resorts World Hudson Valley casino to become the new focal point and anchor to the mall on Route 300.

Work on that new entertainment venue is progressing with an anticipated opening later this year.
