KINGSTON – Pat Ryan will serve as Ulster County executive for just two more weeks.

He won the special election to fill the vacant 19th congressional post through the end of the year and that job will start in mid-September.

“I will officially be sworn in on the 13th of September, which is when session restarts down in Washington, and I am still processing and beginning to fully appreciate the gravity of that and the responsibility that comes with it, but really looking forward to representing and fighting for every single constituent in this district,” he told Mid-Hudson News.

Three Democrats have expressed interest in being selected to replace Ryan as county executive – County Comptroller March Gallagher, Deputy County Executive Mark Rider and former State Senator Jennifer Metzger.

Republican Chairman Tom Turco did not return a call for comment about any potential GOP candidates.
