POND EDDY – A teenage drowning victim was recovered from the Delaware River in Pond Eddy Saturday afternoon.  Mutual aid assistance was requested in Sullivan County for the call that came in just before 2:30 p.m. The call reported an 18-year-old man had been swimming upriver from the Pond Eddy Bridge, went under, and had not resurfaced.

Sullivan, Orange, and Pike County responders arrived with boats, divers, and EMS and recovered the young man’s body within a short time, within view of the bridge.  His body was recovered on the New York side of the river in Pond Eddy, Sullivan County.

Those on scene issued a reminder to always wear a life jacket when enjoying the river for recreational purposes. The river is very shallow in many spots, and also rocky and swiftly flowing.  Those using the river need to be aware of hidden deep spots, rocks, and other dangers, officials warn.
