KINGSTON – Students will be returning to school soon, and the Salvation Army in Kingston is giving away school supplies to help them during upcoming academic year.

The Salvation Army buys backpacks and spends about $200. But it has also received about $600-$700 in donations from Morningstar Church, Romeo Ford and personal donations from Facebook.

Barri Vazquez-Muhs, captain of Salvation Army, said these donations should cover the students’ needs with some out-of-pocket spending by their families to ensure they have enough supplies.

“We give them what pretty much should be most of their necessities,” she said. “They might still need to get a couple of things, but the amount that they have to buy should be very small compared to what they are getting.”
