Primary elections today to select congressional candidates

MID-HUDSON – Primary elections today – Tuesday, August 23 – will select candidates for political party lines in the November 8 general elections.

There is also a special election to fill the 19th Congressional District seat for the remainder of the year.

Antonio Delgado held that post until named lieutenant governor by Governor Kathy Hochul.

Ulster County Executive Patrick Ryan will be running on the Democratic and Working Families lines and Dutchess County Executive Marcus Molinaro will be running on the Republican and Conservative Party lines.

Primary elections will be held for the new 17th, 18th, and 19th Congressional Districts.

In the 17th District, Rep. Sean Maloney and State Senator Alessandra Biaggi will face off for the Democratic line.

Five candidates are seeking the Republican line in the 17th District – Shoshana David, Charles Falciglia, William Faulkner, Michael Lawler, and Jack Schrepel.

Three candidates will face off for the Democrat line in the new 18th Congressional District – Patrick Ryan, Moses Mugulusi, and Aisha Mills.

Running for the Democratic line in the new 19th District are Jamie Cheney and Josh Riley.

There is also a Republican primary for the new 51st State Senate seat pitting Peter Oberacher, a state senator currently serving in an old district, and Terry Bernardo.
