Newburgh Town Police charge four with manslaughter

TOWN OF NEWBURGH – Four individuals have been charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of a Town of Newburgh man who it was believed fell or jumped from a roof in an attempted suicide, Town Police in Newburgh said Friday evening.

It was on August 10 at about 9:15 p.m. that town police responded to Willella Place for a report of a man down. That’s where they found Edgar Stone, 38, of Philipsburg, Pennsylvania in the driveway with significant injuries.

Officers found a ladder placed to the roof of the house.

Stone was transported to Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital where he was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla in critical condition.

On August 14, Stone died from his injuries sustained in what police determined was an assault.

Detectives investigated leading to the arrests of the four individuals in connection with the homicide.

Charged are David Quaglietta, 27, and Samantha Mitzner, 36, both of Plattekill, and Danaya Matychak, 23, and Marica Strang, 41, both of Newburgh.

Police did not disclose a motive for the killing.

Assisting in the investigation are the State Police, Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force, FBI, Newburgh City Police Drone Unit, Hudson Valley Crime Analysis Center and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
