KINGSTON – Ulster County Sheriff Juan Figueroa has created a new division of professional standards.
The independent unit will be headed by John Luke Mason, who said it will address several issues.
“Internal and external investigations, complaints from civilians and internal complaints from officers and deputies, correction officers, within the sheriff’s office,” he said. “In charge of FOIL requests, substance abuse, testing, background checks.”
The division will also address training, retention, officer wellness and Equal Employment Opportunity Compliance.
Mason is a former Ulster County assistant district attorney.
