City of Newburgh has highest unemployment rate in region

ALBANY – The City of Newburgh, at 5.1 percent unemployment, had the highest rate of joblessness in the Hudson Valley in June, according to the State Labor Department.

The City of Mount Vernon came in second with 4.8 percent unemployment. City of Poughkeepsie followed at 4.5 percent.

The Village of Port Chester had the lowest rate, at 2.2 percent while the Town of Rye had a rate of 2.3 percent and Town of Mamaroneck with a rate of 2.4 percent.

Jobs are still plentiful across the region with signs in front of virtually every business.

Other area unemployment rates in June include the City of Middletown at 3.8 percent, Town of Monroe at 4.3 percent and the towns of Wappinger, Greenburgh and Clarkstown each coming in at 2.8 percent unemployment.
