Two arrested on gun charges in Highland

HIGHLAND – Two men were arrested by State Police following a traffic stop on Route 9W in Highland shortly after 11 p.m. on August 8.

During the investigation, a trooper learned that the driver, Tashaun Simms, 24, from St. Helena Island, was driving with a suspended license and had a warrant for his arrest from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police. He was taken into custody.

The passenger in the car, Andre Crosby, 19, of the City of Newburgh, had a suspended state driver’s license.

During an inventory search of their vehicle prior to it being towed from the scene, troopers located a loaded 9mm handgun with a magazine containing 10 additional rounds.

Both men were charged with criminal possession of a weapon and possession of a large capacity magazine.

They were both arraigned with Crosby being released on his own recognizance and Simms being remanded on $5,000 cash bail, $10,000 bond, or $20,000 unsecured bond.
