ALBANY – The State Health Department reports that there have been 75 cases of monkeypox in the Hudson Valley.

The largest number to date is in Westchester County with 53 cases in total.

Orange County reports six cases while Dutchess County has had five cases.

There were four cases in Rockland County while two each in Sullivan and Ulster counties and one case each in the counties of Columbia, Greene and Putnam.

The virus, which can manifest with blister and a rash, particular in the groin area, can last for a few weeks.

Persons who think they may have caught the virus should contact their healthcare provider, the health department advises.

New Yorkers who may have been exposed to monkeypox in areas with high levels of transmission may be eligible for the JYNNEOS vaccine. Vaccine supply from the federal government is currently limited, and eligibility is expected to expand as supply increases.
