POUGHKEEPSIE – An 18-year-old was arrested on a gun charge after a concerned citizen reported seeing three teens enter a Poughkeepsie apartment, including one with a visible handgun on Sunday.

Keyben Lopez was charged with felony criminal possession of a weapon and held for arraignment at police headquarters after a brief investigation on Sunday night.

City 911 received a report from a caller on Sunday around 5:30 p.m. in which the caller reported seeing three young men, one armed with a handgun, enter an apartment at the Smith Street projects.  Officers responded and watched the vehicle that was said to have carried the young men to the apartment complex.

When the three left the complex, officers followed and conducted a traffic stop at approximately 5:54 p.m. on Main Street near the intersection with Rose Street.

During the traffic stop and investigation, officers determined that Lopez, the driver, was in possession of a loaded Smith and Wesson handgun illegally, police said.  He was arrested and transported to police headquarters for processing.
