BEACON – The City of Beacon previously had three firehouses. One was closed down a few years ago and now, a second one will be shuttered.

Mayor Lee Kyriacou said the newest facility, adjacent to City Hall, will be expanded to become the sole firehouse.

“We are going to be breaking ground on converting our firehouse on Route 9D, the Tompkins Hose Firehouse, into the central station for the city,” he said. “So, we are going to expand that facility and totally redo it and when we do, we will be able to close the remaining firehouse.”

An additional firetruck bay will be constructed on the Tompkins Hose Firehouse and that will house all of the firematic vehicles for the city.
