New Paltz man arrested for DWI twice in two hours

NEW PALTZ – A 29-year-old New Paltz man has been arrested twice in a two-hour span for driving while intoxicated.

At about 2:25 a.m. on July 31, state troopers observed a 2013 Audi S4 on Southside Avenue in the Town of New Paltz in violation of several vehicle and traffic laws.

Troopers stopped the car driven by Edwin Mendez and determined he was unlicensed and was impaired by alcohol.

He was arrested, refused to take a chemical test and was charged with felony driving while intoxicated and felony aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Mendez was released on an appearance ticket to town court.

Two hours later, troopers patrolling on Route 299 spotted a 2013 Audi S4 in violation of several vehicle and traffic laws.

A traffic stop revealed it was the same man who was arrested earlier and he was intoxicated.

Mendez was charged with felony DWI and aggravated unlicensed operation and released on another appearance ticket.
