WAPPINGERS FALLS – An accident at approximately 5 p.m. on Tuesday interrupted electric service, damaged parked cars, and sent one motorist to a local hospital.  The collision caused substantial traffic delays on Route 9 in the village near the intersection with East Main Street.

Sources told Mid-Hudson News that a sedan was witnessed traveling north on Route 9 approaching the village when the driver lost control, left the roadway, and hit two parked cars and a utility pole in the parking lot of Auto Trends, just south of the plaza that includes Auto Zone, Dunkin’ Donuts, and other retail establishments.

The Wappingers Falls Police Department, Wappingers Falls Fire Department, and Mobile Life Support Services responded to the accident, with state troopers arriving shortly before the one motorist was taken by ambulance to a Poughkeepsie hospital.

A witness indicated that the northbound sedan was heading north on Route 9 at a “high rate of speed while swerving in and out of traffic” when the driver lost control and hit the two unoccupied cars and the utility pole that held an electric transformer.

A police officer at the scene indicated that the cause of the accident is under investigation and the motorist could face charges when the investigation is concluded.

No additional information was available on Tuesday evening.  Anyone with information regarding the accident is asked to call the Wappingers Falls PD at 845-297-1011.
