KINGSTON – A 27-year-old Saugerties man pled guilty in Ulster County Court on Monday to predatory sexual assault against a child as a felony.

The conviction arose from an investigation by the Ulster County Family and Child Advocacy Center of Benjamin Santiago’s sexual abuse of several children under the age of 13 on numerous occasions. He also photographed the abuse.

He is scheduled to be sentenced in November.

“This is a great example of collaboration of county and local agencies to provide services to our citizens. The Saugerties Police Department immediately recognized this case as one that should be referred to the Family and Child Advocacy Center,” said Jimmy McKoy, senior investigator and center director. He said the center has “specialized trained officers and Child Protective Services workers to investigate crimes against children.”

McKoy said investigators worked with Saugerties Police and the district attorney’s computer crimes unit to secure evidence and admissions that would been irretrievable. “This collaboration provided a quick resolution in criminal court and identified multiple young children who were provided essential medical and therapeutic services at the Family and Child Advocacy Center,” he said.
