Man beaten and robbed on Main Street early Saturday morning

POUGHKEEPSIE – A 43-year-old man has been arrested for a violent Main Street robbery that occurred early Saturday on Main Street in Poughkeepsie.

The suspect, David Patterson, has been charged with felony robbery and misdemeanor assault following an incident near the intersection of Main and South Cherry Streets.

According to City of Poughkeepsie police, one of their K-9 units was flagged down at approximately 12:42 a.m. on July 23 by a man who had suffered a head injury after being assaulted by another man, identified as David Patterson.

The victim told the officer that the suspect had thrown him to the ground and punched him in the head repeatedly.  The suspect then robbed the victim of an undisclosed amount of cash and fled on foot.

A description of Patterson was broadcast over the police radio and another police unit responding to the scene located him on Rose Street and he was taken into custody without incident.

Patterson was processed and held for arraignment.

The victim was treated for his injuries and released.
