Lisa Holton, Judge Kellman's daughter, thanks the Town of Woodbury for renaming the courthouse in his memory

HIGHLAND MILLS – Local officials and residents gathered on Friday in front of the newly renovated Town of Woodbury Courthouse to honor the late Judge Edward J. Kellman. The facility has been renamed in his memory. Judge Kellman served on the bench for 34 years.

Senator James Skoufis, who hosted the dedication, said the judge was held in the highest regard by those he knew.

An educator in the Monroe-Woodbury School District, and a popular athletic coach as well as respected judge, Kellman mentored many young politicians including current Woodbury Supervisor Tom Burke.  Burke said the judge “embodied the concept of servant leadership,” noting the judge officiated at his 2005 marriage.

Skoufis, who began his political career as a Woodbury councilman, spoke of repairs that had been made on the building, including one time when ceiling pieces were actually falling down.

The recently completed renovation was funding through a $300,000 grant the senator obtained.

The renovation includes a new roof, windows, siding, improved drainage and fully ADA compliant access as well as significant interior renovation.

Kellman’s daughter Lisa Holton spoke of how grateful and honored she and the rest of the Kellman family are for the recognition of her father.
