City of Newburgh has highest unemployment rate in region

ALBANY – The City of Newburgh recorded the highest rate of unemployment in the Hudson Valley – at 4.9 percent – in May, according to the State Labor Department. The regional average was 2.9 percent.

The Village of Port Chester, with 2.0 percent joblessness, had the lowest rate in the region.

The City of Poughkeepsie, with 4.2 percent unemployment, had the second highest rate, followed by the City of Mount Vernon, at 4.5 percent.

Among the municipalities with the lowest rates in May were the Town of Mamaroneck at 2.1 percent, the Town of Ramapo at 2.2 percent, the Village of Spring Valley at 2.4 percent, and the Town of Carmel at 2.6 percent.
