Joppenbergh Mountain

The Wallkill Valley Land Trust (WVLT) and members of the Fats in the Cats Mountain Bike Club will be starting two projects on Joppenbergh Mountain beginning Monday, July 11th.     The projects include trail repairs and the construction of a mountain bike skill practice area.

The access trail leading from the parking area to the trails on Joppenbergh has been experiencing severe erosion during rain storms, according to Kim Stever of the WVLT.  The access trail will be regraded and water bars will be installed.

In addition to repairing the access trail, a mountain bike skills practice area will be created in the center of the Tailings Loop trail.  Dumped tree stump piles will be removed and workers will rearrange the piles of mine tailings to create fun features for beginner mountain bikers and kids to ride.

The Fats in the Cats club’s youth division will also help to build some wooden structures to ride on and gain important skills.

Future projects include the construction of bog bridges in the muddy areas and rerouting the green trail off of the old eroded jeep trail.
