POUGHKEEPSIE – A Wednesday night fire at a rehab facility in Poughkeepsie required extensive work by firefighters and displaced several residents.  The incident at Rehabilitation Support Services on South Randolph Avenue was reported just after 6:00 p.m.

City of Poughkeepsie firefighters responded to the address and reported seeing flames through the basement window.  According to Chief Joe Franco, the fire originated in the basement and the bulk of the fire was contained in that area.

Poughkeepsie firefighters, assisted by the Arlington and Fairview fire departments were required to do a substantial amount of overhaul to the building because the fire had spread through the walls.

“The firefighters did a tremendous job of containing the fire and preventing the old building from being destroyed,” said Chief Franco.

Dutchess County Transit provided a bus to transport the displaced residents of the building to temporary housing arranged by Rehabilitation Services.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but does not appear to be suspicious in nature.
