FISHKILL – The body of a 35-year-old Beacon man was recovered from the depths of the Beacon Reservoir on Wednesday morning by members of the State Police dive team.  The man had gone swimming with friends last night around 9:15 p.m. and never returned to shore.

Fishkill Police Lieutenant Paul Schettino said the body of Robert Anspach was found by divers around 10 a.m. Wednesday morning.  Anspach’s body was found about 20 feet below the surface, 30 feet from the shore.

“Several first responders were on the scene last night and searched the area until about 1:30 this morning,” Schettino told Mid-Hudson News.  “The search resumed this morning and the divers located him after a brief search.”

The Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the reservoir this morning to take the remains for investigation.

“The Town of Fishkill police are actively investigating the death of Anspach.  Details will be released as they become available,” Schettino said.

Swimming, fishing, and boating are prohibited in the reservoir that is accessible to the public.
