MONTICELLO – A Monticello man is in the Sullivan County Jail on bail after being arrested on Sunday on charges of attempted rape and other crimes, Monticello Police said.

Rahiem Brown, 45, was also charged with unlawful imprisonment, criminal contempt, and criminal possession of a weapon, all as felonies, as well as a misdemeanor of menacing.

Police said that at 10 a.m. on July 3, they responded to a 911 report of a dispute in the road at the intersection of Broadway and Spring Street.

Officers located Brown and a 36-year-old Monticello woman at the scene. The woman told police that she had an order of protection against Brown and that he had held her against her will in a residence for several hours overnight.

The victim told police he attempted to sexually assault her and had threatened her by placing a chainsaw against her legs while trying to start it.

She was eventually able to leave the residence with Brown following after her, which resulted in the 911 call alerting the police.

Brown was arrested and arraigned in Monticello Village Court before Judge Douglas Solomon. He was remanded on $25,000 cash bail, $35,000 bail bond or $45,000 secured insurance bond pending future court action.
