Child drowns, adult critical, in Town of Wallkill pool (video)

TOWN OF WALLKILL – Tragedy struck in the Town of Wallkill over the July 4th weekend as an eight-year-old child drowned and a 40-year-old man was in critical condition at Garnet Health Medical Center, Deputy Wallkill Police Chief Antonino Spano said.

Police were called to 302 Fair Oaks Road at 8 p.m. where they found the child, whose name they did not release, unresponsive partially submerged in a backyard pool of a residence.

The male victim, identified as Yaw Assad, was found alongside the pool in the grass.

Both victims were rushed to the hospital where the child was pronounced dead and the man was in critical condition, Spano said.

Wallkill detectives are investigating the incident with assistance from the State Police.
