Rally against Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision held in Poughkeepsie on Saturday

KINGSTON – Some 300 women and men rallied in Kingston on Saturday in opposition to the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade.

The event, organized by IndivisibleNY19, was part of a nationwide “We Won’t Go Back” movement in support of abortion access.

Organizer Lin Sakai said the effort goes beyond just abortion rights.

“It also represents not just the loss of women’s reproductive freedoms but we are just seeing it as a loss of really all of our freedoms that have already taken place, loss of voting rights, loss of our freedom to enjoy clean air and water with the recent EPA ruling,” she said.

Sakai said the rally was part of a “Summer of Rage” expressing rage, defiance and anger in the overturning of Roe v. Wade.

Other rallies were held across the region including in Poughkeepsie.
