TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – A 26-year-old woman from Georgia was killed Thursday morning on North Road (Route 9) after being struck by a pickup truck.  Town of Poughkeepsie police are investigating the accident.

The accident occurred just before 5 a.m. a short distance north of Winslow Gate Drive in front of the former Hudson Valley Psychiatric Center.  The collision occurred in the center turning lane which separates the north and southbound travel lanes on North Road.

Town police say that the preliminary investigation reveals that the woman from Georgia was struck by a pickup truck driven by a 48-year-old woman from Hyde Park.  The victim had been staying with relatives in the area prior to her death and was employed by LCS Facility Group as a cleaner at the Culinary Institute of America.

Traffic in the area was limited while the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Division conducted a reconstruction analysis of the accident.
North Road (Route 9) was closed in the area of Winslow Gate Road from 4:47 a.m. to 8:20 a.m. for the initial investigation, with limited traffic on one northbound lane and one southbound lane to open while keeping the middle lanes shut down for further analysis. North Road was completely opened back up at 10:15 a.m.
The investigation is ongoing and the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department is asking any witnesses who observed the crash to contact them at 845-485-3680.
