Saugerties man charged with breaking into private residence

SAUGERTIES – A 36-year-old Village of Saugerties man who allegedly forced his way into a private residence on Washington Avenue at about 10:15 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28 and threatening the residents with physical harm, was arrested the following afternoon, arraigned and released by Saugerties Village Court on his own recognizance.

An order of protection was issued against Michael Newman on behalf of the victims.

Saugerties Police were called to the residence on a report of a fight in progress as well as a burglary in the same area.

He fled when a 911 call was placed.

At 1:20 p.m. on June 29, Newman was located by police and taken into custody, charged with felony burglary and misdemeanor criminal mischief.
