POUGHKEEPSIE – City officials have announced that the two municipal pools are open as of Wednesday, June 29.  City residents can use the pools at Pulaski and Spratt Parks for free again this year.  The city plans to keep the pools open until August 29.

Both the Pulaski Park Pool located at 162 Washington Street and Spratt Park Pool located at 121 Wilbur Boulevard will be open from noon to 7:00 p.m. daily  Programming for adults consists of lap swim sessions from 11:00 a.m. to noon at the Spratt Park pool.  Swim lessons will be offered from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. beginning July 11 at the Pulaski  Park pool.

Applications for swimming lessons can be picked up at the Pulaski pool site starting on Thursday, June 30.

The city’s administration, aware of a national shortage of lifeguards, raised the salaries of pool employees and offered both a sign-on bonus and an additional bonus for employees that work the entire swimming season.  “The City staff came through to deal with what has become a nationwide lifeguard shortage,” said Mayor Rob Rolison. “We have been determined to address this challenge and to ensure both our pools open during the summer.”

City officials issued a reminder that they reserve the right to close the pools due to public health, weather-related, and/or staffing issues. The pool houses will remain closed, and there will be no concession at the pools. Residents are encouraged to picnic outside of the pool areas.

Non-vaccinated residents are also asked to wear a mask in the pool areas but are not required to while physically in the pool swimming.
