DUTCHESS COUNTY – Republican Town of Clinton Councilman Dean Michael lost the Republican primary in his attempt to be the GOP candidate against Democratic Assemblywoman Didi Barrett in November.  Michael had previously run against Barrett on the Republican line and lost.

The 106th Assembly district includes parts of Dutchess and Columbia counties.  In March of this year, the Dutchess County GOP Committee nominated Columbia County’s Brandon Gaylord to oppose Barrett.  After failing to get the committee endorsement, Michael went to work to secure Republican signatures on petitions to force a primary against Gaylord, a Columbia County Republican.

On Tuesday, 890 Republicans in Columbia County chose Gaylord, with only 358 voters choosing Mr. Michael.  In Dutchess County, Michael garnered 1,182 votes in his home county, edging out Gaylord who received 902 votes.

In total, Gaylord received 1,792 Republican votes to Michael’s 1,540.  Gaylord will square off against Barrett in November.
