Saugerties motorist arrested with three times legal limit of alcohol

Saugerties Police Chief Joe Sinagra has been placed on paid administrative leave.

SAUGERTIES – A 60-year-old Saugerties man has been arrested on DWI charges after his vehicle ran off Route 212 and became stuck on top of rebar used to support framing for a freshly poured sidewalk.

Saugerties Police on patrol just before 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 23, encountered the vehicle driven by Kenneth Beams.

He submitted to a breath test resulting in his blood alcohol content being .24 percent, three times the legal limit.

He was charged with driving while intoxicated and aggravated driving while intoxicated over .18 percent, and failure to maintain lanes.

Beams was issued tickets to appear in court at a later day and was released to a third party.
