NEW YORK – Embattled former Newburgh school superintendent Roberto Padilla has been named superintendent for Community School District 7 in the Bronx, Chancellor David Banks and Mayor Eric Adams announced on Monday.

Padilla took a paid leave of absence from Newburgh after allegations surfaced of alleged inappropriate behavior toward to female employees, Elizabeth Walsh and Una Miller.

In a statement released Monday evening, the women said they are “shocked” and the New York City officials “are putting their trust in Roberto Padilla after his conduct that compelled us to file a lawsuit against him.”

They said they “previously trusted Padilla, and our careers were derailed because of it.”

The women said, “The students, families and educators of the Bronx and District 7 deserve better than Padilla, who we saw firsthand create a culture of fear and intimidation. We advise the city to re-evaluate this important decision.”

Walsh and Miller recently filed a workplace harassment and retaliation lawsuit with the State Supreme Court in Goshen, naming Padilla, the Newburgh school district and school board as defendants.
