Hudson Valley unemployment continues to drop

ALBANY – The May unemployment rate for the Hudson Valley is 2.9 percent, down from 4.6 percent in May of 2021. Because of the low rate, many jobs are going unfilled, and businesses continue to offer higher starting wages and sign-on bonuses.

Columbia County had the lowest rate of joblessness in May at 2.4 percent. Delaware and Greene counties had the highest rate at 3.1 percent.

In between, Rockland County had 2.6 percent unemployment, Rockland County had 2.6 percent while Putnam County came in at 2.7 percent joblessness.

Ulster and Dutchess counties each had 2.8 percent unemployment, while Sullivan, Orange and Westchester each had a 3.0 percent rate of joblessness.
