NEWBURGH – Two Newburgh Free Academy Main administrators and four teachers have been suspended by the Newburgh Enlarged City School District Board of Education.

The move this week stemmed from two separate incidents.

The two administrators, high school Principal Edgar Glascott and Assistant Principal Katiana Simon were reportedly suspended for the “Regentsgate” debacle where teachers complained they were not given instructions to administer the Regents exams.

The four teachers, all NFA faculty, were suspended with the district taking the first step at terminating their employment. A trial will be conducted by an arbitrator hearing testimony.

Their case involved social media postings about a long braid of hair found on the floor of a classroom with one of the teachers posting a picture of it with the comment, “Does anyone know what kind of snake this is? Found in my classroom…”

Other people commented saying, “escape from your room??,” “Rubber!,” “DEAD omggg… you’re hilarious,” and “aren’t they on sale at the mall this week?”

The braid was believed to belong to an African American student and the comments were considered racist.
