NEWBURGH – Democratic Orange County Legislator Kevindaryan Lujan has suspended his candidacy for the State Senate’s new 39th District and instead has thrown his support to another candidate, Julie Shiroishi, the chairwoman of the Dutchess County Democratic Committee and chief of staff to Assemblyman Jonathan Jacobson (D, Newburgh).

“We will achieve the social and economic progress that we so desperately need, only if we unite and work together to ensure that Democrats win up and down the ballot,” Lujan said. “I believe Julie has the best chance of giving us the victory we need in the Hudson Valley to improve the lives of working families, immigrants, and people of all colors, ages, gender identities, and religions.”

Lujan called Shiroishi “a coalition-builder with the energy and experience to enact people-first policies.”

Poughkeepsie City Mayor Rob Rolison is the Republican candidate for the new 39th Senate District seat.
