POUGHKEEPSIE – An ambulance responding to an emergency call in Poughkeepsie on Saturday evening was involved in a collision with another vehicle, resulting in two ambulance personnel being injured.  The incident occurred around 6:50 p.m. in a busy intersection.

City of Poughkeepsie Police and firefighters responded to a report of an accident involving an ambulance at the intersection of South Grand Avenue and Baker Street, the eastbound arterial.

The police and fire departments shut down the road at South Grand Avenue and firefighters tended to the injured passengers.  Both ambulance personnel were injured and transported by another ambulance to MidHudson Regional Hospital for treatment.  The female operator of the second vehicle was evaluated but remained at the scene.

A source told Mid-Hudson News that the ambulance was responding to an emergency call, using lights and sirens while heading east on Baker when it collided with the second vehicle.

The ambulance left the roadway and knocked a street light down before crashing into a fence of a house located next to the intersection.

City police conducted a preliminary investigation at the scene and both vehicles were impounded.  Baker Street was reopened to traffic at 8:05 p.m.

Police are asking for anyone who witnessed the accident to call the TIP LINE at 845-451-7577.
