STORMVILLE – Multiple police agencies and crisis workers are working to prevent a man who has threatened to harm himself on the Appalachian Trail in the East Fishkill area.

According to East Fishkill Police Chief Chris Bellino, a man called Dutchess County 911 indicating that he was armed and wanted to harm himself.  During the conversation, the man said he was on the Appalachian Trail near Rockledge Road, on Hosner Mountain in Stormville.

East Fishkill police, assisted by Dutchess County Sheriff’s deputies, Kent Police, and the New York State Police, including their aviation unit, were attempting to locate the man since the initial call just after 7 p.m. on May 31.

Bellino indicated that a mobile crisis team had made contact with the man and was working with him to bring the incident to a peaceful ending. As of 9 p.m. on Tuesday night there was no reported conclusion.

As a precaution, the East Fishkill Police Department asked that East Fishkill residents in the area of Woodmont Road and Rockledge Road by the Appalachian Trail are being asked to stat inside of their homes, with the doors and windows locked.  Area residents are also being asked to call Dutchess County 911 to report any suspicious activity in the area.
