NEW PALTZ – Three Dutchess County men have been charged with felonies after a May 26 burglary at a New Paltz residence.  One of the men was remanded to Ulster County Jail.

Twenty-one-year-old Joseph Simonetty, a Poughkeepsie resident, is in jail after being charged with the felonies of burglary and criminal possession of a weapon.

Poughkeepsie resident Pedro Santiago, 18, was charged with felony burglary and criminal possession of a weapon and mandated to Ulster County Probation for electronic monitoring.

Laishjuan Torres, a 20-year-old resident of Wappingers Falls, was charged with felony conspiracy and released on an appearance ticket.

According to the New Paltz Police Department, they received a report of a burglary in progress at a New Paltz residence at 9 a.m. on May 26.  Responding officers apprehended Santiago as he was attempting to flee the scene.

With the remaining two burglars in the residence, a perimeter was established and a nearby pre-school was placed on lockdown.

When police eventually gained entry, they apprehended Simonetty and Torres in the residence, along with a 9mm handgun.

All of the subjects were processed at police headquarters.  Simonetty and Santiago were arraigned in the Town of Gardiner Justice Court.  The judge ordered Santiago to probation for an electronic monitoring ankle bracelet and Simonetty was sent to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of a $2,500 cash bail.
