WARWICK – Reconstruction of the Bank Street Bridge in the Village of Warwick has been completed.
The design and construction were performed by the Orange County Department of Public Works.
To mark the occasion, Warwick Mayor Michael Newhard and County Executive Steven Neuhaus took a ride over the bridge in Micah O’Connor’s 1923 Studebaker after the ribbon cutting. Legislators Barry Cheney and Paul Ruszkiewicz also attended the event.
“I want to thank the county’s talented and hardworking DPW team for their successful revitalization of the Bank Street Bridge,” Neuhaus said. “Much time and effort were made to ensure that this bridge design complemented the architecture and character of the surrounding buildings. The bridge provides safety and convenience for residents in Warwick, and I appreciate that it was re-opened in a timely manner.”
Neuhaus noted that the Orange County DPW Engineering and Bridge Construction team completed this important infrastructure project with in-house workforce, which saved hundreds of thousands of dollars as the project was not required to out for bid.
The bridge is in the heart of the Village of Warwick and carries Bank Street across the Wawayanda Creek. The 39-foot span bridge was constructed in 1910 and the project consisted of a full superstructure replacement. The county’s DPW worked closely with representatives from the Village of Warwick to provide a new bridge that is in character with the historic Warwick setting. The construction cost was approximately $450,000.
“County road and bridge infrastructure is vital to the region, and I thank County Executive Neuhaus and the county legislature for their support during this project,” County DPW Commissioner Erik Denega said. “I am especially proud of the Orange County DPW engineering, bridge crew and administrative staff for their hard work and effort to complete this impressive project.”
