Monticello man charged with attempted murder

MONTICELLO- A 46-year-old Monticello man is in the Sullivan County Jail without bail on charges of criminal possession of a weapon and attempted murder following an incident that occurred last December.

The State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation from the Liberty barracks arrested Gregory Cochran in connection with an incident that occurred on December 8, 2021 in Monticello.

On that date, Cochran was involved in a verbal altercation with an acquaintance. During the argument, the victim locked herself in a bathroom. Cochran shot through the door and struck the woman in the head.

She was transported to Garnet Health Medical Center by the suspect and a friend after being treated at a local hospital.

On May 20, 2022, the victim came into the State Police barracks in Liberty to report being pistol whipped the day before and also reported the December 8 incident.

Cochran was arrested outside his home in Monticello.
