POUGHKEEPSIE – A man recently apprehended by observant neighborhood residents for a burglary is facing several felony drug charges for crimes allegedly committed before his May 10, 2022 arrest.

James Wolven, a 44-year-old Poughkeepsie man with a prior felony burglary conviction, was arrested on a felony burglary charge on May 10.  He was held by neighborhood residents until the police arrived.  The full account can be found here.

Wolven is also facing several drug charges according to Dutchess County Senior Assistant District Attorney Heather Ryan.

Ryan told Mid-Hudson News that Wolven was arrested in September of 2021 on a charge of criminal sale of a controlled substance.  He was arraigned on October 13, 2021, and released due to bail reform laws.

While that case was pending in the City of Poughkeepsie Court, Wolven was indicted on that charge as well as additional felony charges of selling cocaine on October 7, 2021, November 8, 2021, and November 17, 2021.  He also faces felony charges for criminally using drug paraphernalia after police discovered a scale used for weighing drugs before they were sold.  The DA’s office noted that the additional drug charges occurred after he was released on an appearance ticket for the first drug charge.

Wolven was indicted on the drug charges and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail without bail on May 13, just three days after his burglary arrest.  The felon’s burglary case is expected to go before the grand jury this week.
